In this article i am going to talk on a very important topic , Rape Culture. Everyone talk about rape but today let’s talk about how we can lessen this misdeed.
While it’s legitimate for us to be angry at rape or at rapist, but solution don’t come from anger. To cure anything you have to know it’s cause.
So, my question is what we are doing to prevent these crimes. We are protesting, we are setting up various laws. Still we can’t see this crime rate dropping anywhere. Laws against rape are good but they do nothing to prevent rape. All the things are in place but they are not for prevention they are for punishment.
If laws prevent crime, the crime would be unheard. Most of the crime like murder, rape wouldn’t be committed as its illegal in most of the countries.
LAWS DO NOT DETER CRIME. THEY ONLY PUNISH CRIMINAL
Who cause the crime? THE RAPIST , but who caused the rapist?
Remember that every time you are beating your child. Every time you let your child to abuse anyone. Every time you let your child to molest someone you are creating a potential rapist.
Without therapy you can catch a rapist and put them in jail and he'll come out even worst than before. Rapist know shame and humiliation but they don't know gentleness, kindness and respect. They don't even know self respect. WE CAN'T GIVE WHAT WE DON'T HAVE.
We humans have been doing wonders in every aspect . But we same humans can’t prevent ourselves from getting involved. We same humans can’t protect our thoughts from getting polluted.
Let me give you a example. We see elephants tied with a chain when it’s young. But as it grow up he is tied with thin rope . He started believing that he can’t break the rope as he couldn’t break the chain. We have seen pet dogs and cats living together then why can’t a human condition their child. Why we humans are loosing our humanity.
Rape culture is ubiquitous. It’s all embedded in what we think, how we speak and how we move in this world.
BELOW ARE SOME WAYS TO PREVENT RAPE
KNOW THE ROOTS
RAPE culture is allowed to continue. These crime will keep on happening until we will not stop the ideas of masculinity that see violence and dominance as STRONG and . Women and girls as less strong and less valued.
Know the real cause behind rape. Victim’s sobriety, clothes, and sexuality are irrelevant reasons for rape.
Counter the ideas that men must obtain the power through violence and question the notion of sex as an entitlement.
Conditioning of Children
Girls are brought up to become passive, obedient, dependent, caring and nurturing. The same conditioning encourage boys to grow up into men who try to dominate and see women less powerful. They see them as a Sexual object rather than a whole individual.
We use phrase like ‘ He walk like girls’ ‘She walk like boys’ ‘He talk like girls’ ‘She look like boys’. This is the time we start teaching our children to disrespect each other.
Sex education is more than just talking about sexual intimacy. It includes reproductive health, consent, gender equality, gender identity and much more. All of them are important as they address sexual violence.
Policy for sex education should be implemented as students really need to be taught to critically think and learn about sexuality and all that it encompasses.
Reprehension or victim blaming occur when the victim of a crime is held partially or entirely at fault for harm that befall them.
A female rape victim is generally stigmatized. Many people see rape victim as damaged.
Society generally put allegations such as wearing provocative clothing stimulates sexual aggression in men.
We really need to know what a women is wearing is not an an invitation to rape her.
Instead of Stigmatizing and calling her damaged. Accept her as she is no less than other women even she is much stronger.
People should adopted a policy of no tolerance for violence or any kind of abuse on any human.
People should not tolerate any kind of violence in the spaces they live, they work and they play.
START A CONVERSATION
Talk to your family and friends about rape culture . How you can work together to stop rape in your community.
Whether it’s a conversation about the meaning of masculinity fundraising for women rights or joining a protest.
Language is deeply embedded in culture ,words and phrases we use. These phrase shape our reality.
‘She was dressed like a slut’ ‘she was asking for it’ are some phrase people generally use.
A very popular song lyrics ‘I know you want it’
These are some wrong phrases you need to leave behind. If she says ‘No’ it means ‘No’. Without asking her you won’t know if she wants it or not .
ASK FOR HER CONSENT
Adopt the concept of affirmative consent.
LISTEN TO SURVIVORS
We promote rape culture by maintaining the culture of silence. We believe gender-based violence is an acceptable thing. With women not being allowed or them willingly refusing to report such acts due to our society’s conditioning, they are missing a magnificent opportunity to teach others to be strong and bold. Reporting sexual assault is not enough to change societal views on its own but it certainly is a step closer towards improving the community and creating enough fear in the mind of the perpetrator to think twice before acting on his whims.
In the era of #MeToo #TimesUp like movements . Survivors of violence are speaking out more
LISTEN TO THEM
BE AN ONLOOKER
On in the three women worldwide experience abuse. Violence against women is very common.we may become witness to violent behaviour or sexual abuse. So better to be an onlooker and tell people their behaviour is unacceptable. This may be helpful to someone and will help to create a safe society.
ACCESS THE SITUATION TO DETERMINE WHAT KIND OF HELP THEY NEED
“The truth of it is, the shame was not mine, and for all victims in similar situations, it is not ours. The shame is reserved for every creep who has ever touched us inappropriately. The shame is on the abuser, not the victim, not the survivor. It is tragic that so many of us have to survive this kind of crap, and I’m so sorry if it has happened to you.”
SAVE GIRL IS GOOD BUT IF WE REALLY WANNA SAVE GIRL WE HAVE TO CREATE A SAFE SOCIETY.
